Eligibility

Entry is open to any amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Mecklenburg County (if in question, residency is determined by voter registration) and has a current USGA handicap index of 6.4 or below. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the Committee or host club. Reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.

Rules

USGA Rules of Golf govern play. Local rules are distributed at the starter’s table. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter conditions or schedules as stated at any time during the championship.  Range Finders are allowed with the exception of devices that measure slope. Collared shirts and Bermuda length shorts are required. No denim or mock turtleneck shirts allowed. Players that No Card are suspended from the next year’s Charlotte City Amateur. A score is not posted until it is placed on scoreboard.

Slow Play

Pace of play is extremely important to this tournament and SLOW PLAY will not be tolerated.   If a group is out of position, after a warning if the pace of play does not improve a penalty may be incurred.   Furthermore, the Committee reserves the right to disqualify a slow player and refund their entry during the round or after conclusion of the round and before the next round. Offending players names may be published on the website, social media etc.

Inclement Weather

It is the intent to complete each tournament and qualifying round on its scheduled day. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to modify schedules according to course availability to complete a round, use 9 hole scores or handicaps/exemptions or other means to finalize the field.

Format

The Championship is 54 holes. After 18 holes the field will be cut to the low 50 and ties. After 36 holes the field will be cut to the low 24 (no ties). Ties for the low 24 will be decided by an on course play off. The low 24 will be exempt from qualifying for the following year.

Carts/Caddies/Range Balls

Daily cart fees and range balls are included in the entry fee. 

  • Caddies will NOT be permitted in this years City Am.   We are following the Carolinas Golf Association’s lead and adopting Model Local Rule H-1.1.

Entries

Entry fee is $150.00 Entries open April 22 and close June 3. Entries forms must be completed and paid for on-line at www.Charlottecityam.com.  After entries close, you can be placed on a wait list by sending $150 to admin@charlottecityam.com  (100% refund if you do not get in the event).

Exemptions from Qualifying 2024

The low 24 from the 2023 Charlotte City Amateur, Charlotte City Am Champions since 2005, reigning Club Champions from Pine Island C.C., Carolina G.C., Providence C.C., Cedarwood C.C., Carmel C.C., Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte C.C., Pine Lake C.C., Myers Park C.C., Raintree C.C., the reigning Charlotte Senior Amateur Champion and any CGA Champion since 2016 are exempt from qualifying. Any player qualifying for a USGA event in the previous year is exempt from qualifying. All exempt players must also currently reside in Mecklenburg County. The Tournament Committee may also issue a limited number of special exemptions.

Qualifier

Qualifiers will be held on June 17 and July 8  at Pine Island Country Club. Field size and number of available spots will be determined once entries close.

Waitlist

If the field fills up before the end of registration, players can join the wait-list by sending via PayPal $150 to admin@charlottecityam.com this is fully refundable if a spot does not open up for the player. 

Refund Policy

Any entrants withdrawing during the period entries are open will receive a full refund less a $15.00 administrative fee. Entrants that wish to withdraw after entries have closed will receive a $100 refund. Any player that withdraws after tee times have been posted will lose their entry f
